Have you thought about joining Mensa in a city near you? An international society for those who achieve IQ test results in the top 2%, Mensa was established in 1946 by an Australian barrister and a British scientist, with the aim of forming an organization of the brightest people in the world, a non-political meeting point of those with the highest ranks in IQ. Mensa is free of social distinctions such as race and religion, and it's possible to find special interest groups within the Mensa structure to enhance the exchange of knowledge on a particular topic.
For instance, in Mensa Switzerland, it's possible to join worldwide special interest groups (or SIGs) for alpinists, riddle enthusiasts, or bikers. Take your pick, for it's virtually all on offer! For anyone interested to join the Swiss Mensa, don't be dissuaded by the fact that they refer to themselves as Eggheads Anonymous on the society website. The Mensa Admission Test, supervised by a Mensa test officer, is regularly held in group sessions across Switzerland. The 90 minute test is open to anyone over the age of 15, and costs CHF 35 for pupils, students, apprentices and the unemployed, or CHF 75 for all other applicants. The reduced price category will, however, be abolished after March 1, 2009 and the general price will rise to CHF 80.
If you have been previously tested, it's possible to submit your results to the National Supervisory Psychologist in Zurich to determine admission suitability.
The test is language-free, but it's essential that you understand the language in the region that you are taking the test for spoken and written instruction.
It might, therefore, be necessary to attend a French course Switzerland, German course Switzerland or an Italian course Switzerland before sitting the Mensa test to join Mensa Switzerland. Available throughout Switzerland, language courses such as a French course Montreux are a valuable addition to your Mensa application, or that of your child in the near future.
