TONI Test


The Test of Nonverbal Intelligence 3rd Edition TONI Test is a language-free measure of intelligence, aptitude and reasoning. Moreover, the test is designed for ages 6 - 90 and the test completes in 20 minutes.

TONI Test Revisions

The Test of Nonverbal Intelligence is a major revision of the popular TONI-2. Like its predecessor, TONI-3 uses a language-free administration and response format. The examiner pantomimes the instructions and the individual responds by pointing. There are two equivalent forms of the Test of Nonverbal Intelligence 3rd Edition items include a variety of problem-solving tasks, increasing in complexity and difficulty.



Each item presents a set of figures. Individuals examine the figures, identify the relationships among the figures, and then select the correct response. Additional, difficult items were added to TONI-3 to extend the test's utility with gifted individuals.


Because of its unique format, the Test of Nonverbal Intelligence can be used to assess the intellectual capacity of subjects who have been difficult to evaluate. These include people who are bilingual or non-English speaking; speech or language impaired; deaf; learning disabled; mentally retarded; or victims of stroke or brain injury. The TONI-3 yields a quotient, in standard score form (Mean = 100, Standard Deviation = 15).
