Question: What is the Cognitive Intelligence Test?
The CIT:nv is designed for use by psychologists, resource specialists, occupational therapists, speech/language pathologists, optometrists, learning specialists, counselors and other testing professionals to assess nonverbal reasoning. Two subtests use discrimination tasks (deductive reasoning to identify the design that is different from the rest) and visual analogies (inferential thinking to identify relationships among sets of objects) to assess a child's academic potential. Items are presented in an objective, multiple-choice format, ensuring that scoring is quick and straight-forward. |
The designs are easy to see, and the test does not require receptive English. No verbal responses are necessary. The tests are well-suited for use with children who have impaired verbal skills, are from different cultures or a non-stimulating environment, or those who have motor impairments.
Raw scores for each subtest, and the total score, can be interpreted in terms of standard scores, stanines, and percentile ranks. Cognitive age-equivalents are provided. The CIT:nv was normed on a sample of 1,310 children, of diverse ethnicities, from a number of geographic areas.
