Basic School Skills Inventory 3rd Edition

The Basic School Skills Inventory identifies children who are at high risk for school failure and are in need of in-depth assessment and is designed for kids 4 - 6 years of age and the exam takes about 12 minutes to complete.

The BSSI-3 is an inventory of 137 items required for successful school performance. Using a 4-point Likert-type scale, ranging from, A Does Not Perform to A Performance Indicates Mastery it provides a quick assessment of early abilities in six areas:

  • Daily Living Skills: knowledge and skills required for day-to-day school activities
  • Spoken Language: ability to communicate orally
  • Reading knowledge of printed letters, words, sentences and paragraphs
  • Writing writing letters, words, sentences and paragraphs
  • Mathematics numerical concepts and arithmetic operations
  • Classroom behavior: attentiveness, cooperation, attitude, socialization and work habits Standard scores, percentiles, and age and grade equivalents are reported for each scale. Reliability coefficients are in the .90s for each scale
