The purpose of the Adolescent Coping Orientation for Problem Experiences is to identify behaviors adolescents find helpful in managing problems. Applicable Domains: Personal and Social Adjustment, Responsibility and Independence. Administration: Two page self-report questionnaire with 54 Likert scale items; completed by adolescents 11-18 years of age. Technical Characteristics: Three samples of adolescents were involved in the construction, development, and validity testing of the A-COPE. A repeated factor analyses was conducted to create 12 factors with good alpha reliabilities (ranged from .50 to .76). Scoring: Hand scored, responses are summed where higher scores indicate better coping.Publisher/Contact: This project has moved to the University of Hawaii at Manoa (Dr. Marilyn McCubbin, co-director) and to Washington State University in Pullman (Dr. Laurie McCubbin, co-director).
